It’s been a rainy, gloomy, stay inside where it’s warm kind of a day today.  Thankfully I didn’t have anything I needed to go out to do and I’m caught up on my editing, so I’ve been spending some time cleaning up the files on my computer.  Of course I keep getting distracted looking through images!  I came across these ones that I took on one of David’s and my trips to Europe.  Usually when we travel, David’s the one who takes the majority of the pictures while I pay attention to what’s going on around us so we don’t get mugged!  But the colors and textures all over Europe just beg to be photographed.  Even simple windows there are works of art:

We were in Northern Italy and decided to visit a town that according to the guidebook was supposed to be a “Little Venice” and one of the most romantic cities….Well, this canal seemed to be the only one in the entire city, but look at all the gorgeous colors!

I absolutely love this shot of a family outside of a shop window, especially the little girl.  She’s watching the butcher scoop up candied fruit with her face pressed against the glass.  If you look closely, you can see her reflection in the glass and she’s wearing the cutest pair of sunglasses!  The baby of course is fast asleep.

We took a car ferry across Lake Magiore on our way to Lake Orta.  It was a cold, cloudy day and this was the view from the boat:

When we got to Orta, we found the most incredible hotel to stay in that had literally just opened up.  The building was 16th century, but the rooms were ultra modern.  The shower was in the middle of the room with just a glass brick wall on one side!  It looked really cool, but made a terrible mess when you used it!  The rain finally came and we couldn’t go outside, so we amused ourselves shooting passersby from our tiny balcony on the fifth floor.  Here’s a shot of a couple walking under an umbrella that I took with a really slow shutter speed and panned to show the movement:

After Italy, we ended up in Brussels.  We headed out for some sighting seeing, and stumbled upon a practice that was going on for the Queen’s birthday, which was apparently the next day (it’s actually a national holiday!).  There were literally hundreds of mounted guards carrying flags in formation, moving in and out of these ancient archways:

Okay, enough of my little mini vacation break to Europe; time to get back to work!
